Designing with Pantone Color Forecasting: A Case Study on Color Trends and Combinations

Boost Your Sales with Pantone Forecasting

As a designer creating printables for my Etsy shop, I often debate which color palette to use. To make informed decisions, I turn to Pantone forecasting guides that study color effects and fashion trends to determine what customers want now and in the future.

Pantone is the leader in providing color forecasting based on current fashion trends and research. By incorporating their predictions into my designs, I have seen a significant increase in sales.

Case Study: Using Pantone Colors for More Sales

In 2017, Pantone named Greenery as the color of the year.

Though it wasn’t my first choice, I decided to use it as a challenge.

By using the Spring 2017 palette, I created a Greenery line that paired the color with Pale Dogwood, creating a contrast. To date this is one of my top selling products:

I also designed a wedding planner that featured natural green elements and a bohemian flair, continuing the success of the Greenery line.

Designing with Pantone Colors Beyond Printables

Pantone colors are not just limited to printables. Many home designs featured botanical plants paired with white minimal living spaces in 2017 on HGTV. Incorporating Pantone colors into other design elements can lead to innovative creations.

The Importance of Good Color Combinations and Themes

To make visually appealing designs, it’s essential to understand the significance of color combinations and themes. Utilizing Pantone color charts, books, and swatches can aid in choosing appropriate color schemes for a project.

From Pantone

Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2023 is Viva Magenta. Looking ahead at the Pantone Spring colors, it’s expected that bright and bold colors will be used to bring familiarity to the pre-pandemic era with newness to the post-pandemic era.

Each year I’ve used the color of the year in my designs and it has led to that item being a top seller in my Etsy shop.

So even if the colors seem unusual, trust Pantone’s expertise.
